Heartbreak leads to double the joy.
My husband and I struggled for many years to get pregnant. We got married in October 2018 and a few months later I went off birth control. I have PCOS so I knew I was going to have issues getting pregnant. Before we got married I spoke to a fertility specialist and she recommended having fertility treatments done. It took a few years before we were able to start the process. We went to a couple different fertility clinics all trying to push IVF but being that it was so expensive we knew that wasn’t feasible for us. Once we switched to Kaiser, I talked to their fertility clinic and the doctor there was positive she can get me pregnant without IVF. I stared taking Letrozol, which is a breast cancer chemo drug, but in low doses helps with ovulation. We started the process in 2023 and went through a few cycles of their treatment. The day after Christmas 2023 I found out I was pregnant. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to tell anybody. My mom was staying with us for the weekend and my husband was at work so I told my Mom right away. I planned to surprise for my husband when he got home and I gave him a late gift with the positive pregnancy test. We had our first appointment at six weeks for a viability scan. Unfortunately, at this time, the ultrasound tech could not detect a heartbeat and wanted us to come back in two weeks. Leading up to this point I was having some bleeding on and off for weeks, but since it was light, I didn’t worry about it so much however. After this appointment, I started bleeding a lot more.
